Dr Khanal has over 15 years’ experience as a Nephrologist, including 4 years as an Advanced Nephrology Trainee. She is an AHPRA registered medical practitioner as a Specialist Physician. As well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of the London University, Dr Khanal is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide.
She has worked at hospitals across Australia, New Zealand and Asia, including Royal Adelaide Hospital, Logan Hospital (Brisbane), Princess Alexandra Hospital (Brisbane), Whangarei Hospital (Northland DHB, New Zealand), as well as outreach clinics at the Royal Adelaide Hospital Renal Unit.
Dr Khanal’s has an interest in general nephrology, including glomerular disease (diseases of the kidney filters and related structures due to primary or secondary inflammation from diseases such as Lupus nephritis, diabetes etc), hypertension and diabetes kidney disease, kidney damage due to recurrent urine infection or stone formation, and acute and chronic kidney diseases. She also has an interest in dialysis, transplant medicine, renal biopsy and insertion of haemodialysis catheters.
As well as consulting, Dr Khanal also has significant experience in Nephrology research, including acute kidney injury, glomerulonephritis, and kidney transplant. She is currently researching how to improve transplant outcomes for Indigenous Australians.
