While undertaking General Surgical training, TC completed his doctorate in neuro-gastroenterology supervised by Professor David Wattchow and Professor Nicholas Spencer. He completed accredited subspecialty Colorectal training with the Colorectal Society of Australia and New Zealand (M.CSSANZ), focusing on laparoscopic surgery (including natural orifice specimen extraction), advanced pelvic cancer surgery and proctology.
TC is a Staff Specialist at FMC and has private practices at Flinders Private Hospital and Ashford Hospital. He is is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Public Health, Flinders University, and supervises candidates of higher degrees in Surgery/Physiology.
TC is a recipient of coveted awards from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Foundation including the 2012 W.G. Norman Fellowship and the 2013 R.P. Jepson Medal. He also received the Flinders University Foundation Scholarship (2011, 2012) and was awarded the Covidien SA Registrar's Prize three times during his training years. He is well published and his research work is accessible online.
TC has subspecialty expertise in minimally invasive / laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal surgery, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis, complex pelvic surgery and proctology, including haemorrhoid surgery, perianal fistula disease and pilonidal disease. He offers a broad range of General Surgical procedures including laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) and laparoscopic hernia repair amongst many others. He is GESA accredited for endoscopic procedures and is involved in cancer screening through the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
